could not resist a trip and Saramago.
The word journey for me is highly evocative of paths dreamed, created, only desired, liberators, striking discoveries.
Everything is go.
for this book, Saramago's just say I'd like to fly over the picturesque and adventurous caravan, which has resulted from Lisbon to Vienna Solomon-Suleiman, the elephant, and Subhra-Fritz, his cornac.
The meaning of the book? Take your word that the author says:
"Every player has the right to review in his own way. There is already far too many people telling us what to do and what we think. A good novel should be a space of freedom that apparently there has to be conditioned. The reader can close the doors opened that the writer, and open others. The novel is one of the novels as possible. Nothing more. " (from an article by Paul Neck Republic on April 2, 2009).
Thanks, Saramago. I take the liberty to recreate the magic of your story in an illustrated story for children. I think it will please you.

PS: For the curious who want to know how it occurred in the Saramago novel idea carried over from his preface:
"If not Gilda Lopes Encarnação was a lecturer in Portuguese at the University of Salzburg, if I had not been invited to go to talk to the students, if I had not Gilda invited to dinner in the restaurant L'Elephant, this book would not exist. It's been that the unknown fates come together in the city of Mozart for me to ask: "What are those figures?" The figures were placed in small wooden sculptures in a row, the first of which ... was our Tower of Belem. ... I was told that it was the journey of an elephant ... The book that results is here ... " ( José Saramago, The journey of the elephant, Einaudi 2009)
